At Mill Park Primary School, we understand the importance of reading in the development of young minds. To support our students in their journey towards becoming lifelong readers, we have implemented a comprehensive library program.
Each classroom in our school is equipped with a ‘Classroom Library’ featuring attractive shelving and age-appropriate reading materials. Our Classroom Libraries are regularly updated with new and engaging books that cater to the diverse interests and reading levels of our students. Our central borrowing system links all classrooms, allowing students to easily borrow and return books on a regular and ongoing basis. This ensures that every child has access to a wide variety of reading materials, fostering a love of reading and a thirst for knowledge.
At the beginning of each school year, teachers work with their students to sort through the books in their Classroom Library. This is a valuable teaching point that allows students to learn about the different genres of literature, the library system, and how to care for books. Through this process, we aim to instill a love of reading in our students, teaching them to appreciate the value of books and the power of knowledge.
In addition to Classroom Libraries, our school also has a dedicated library. The library is stocked with age-appropriate reading materials for students at different stages of their reading journey. Classes visit thee library once a week, allowing for more opportunities for students to borrow books and explore new and engaging reading materials. Our library also provides a comfortable and inviting space for students to read and learn independently, promoting a lifelong love of reading and learning. Students are encouraged to visit the library during recess periods, when it’s open, in addition to their dedicated weekly sessions.
