Mill Park Primary School Homework Expectations – 2025
At Mill Park Primary, we value homework as a way to reinforce learning and build study habits. Here’s what to expect in 2025.
English Homework
Years P-2:
- Reading: Students will complete phonics work as well as reading two decodable texts across the week.
- Daily Practice: Reading every day builds confidence and skills.
- Parent Guide for Home Reading: Decodable Reader Guide
- UFLI Sound Wall: Chart
- Intermediate Word Work: Digital Resource
- Beginner Word Work: Digital Resource
Years 3-6:
- Reading Goal: Read for 15 minutes, four times a week.
- Why Read? Reading strengthens brain development and vocabulary.
- Book Choice: Students pick books suited to their level and interests.
Mathematics Homework
Students in Years 1-6 will complete one (A3) sheet of New Wave Maths Homework weekly.
Maths Instructions:
- Complete one column of questions daily (4x per week).
- Answer up to 20 questions per day.
- Use a 10-minute timer to support fluency and accuracy.
- Return completed sheets every Friday.
- Try independently, but parents can help if needed.
- Teachers can adjust difficulty if necessary.
Homework Incentives & Support
- Completed Homework: First half of Maths (Session 6) is for fun learning on Numbots or Times Tables Rockstars.
- Incomplete Homework: Students will catch up in the first half of Session 6, then join others on computers/iPads.
- Correction Time: Second half of Session 6 is for teacher-guided corrections.
Online Maths Platforms
We have moved from Mathletics to Numbots and Times Tables Rock Stars. Students can use their login credentials to login to these platforms both at school (especially in Maths Session 6) and at home.
